Forty-Five Years ago Ronald Reagan gave his historic speech, the title of which is not only the title of this entry, but was the inspiration for this website. I call this "The Rendezvous" because this is a place where Conservative Ideals live and thrive, and is in part a journal as we move through our "rendezvous with destiny". I don't believe that there is a final rendezvous point, but rather several. I believe firmly that we are at such a point now.
Make no mistake about it. Barack Obama and his allies in Congress intend to take away every choice they can from the American People. That has been his intent since day one. I won't go in to the sad pathology that defines Barack Obama here. It's all about POWER. I remember well an episode of the TV Show "Dallas". Bobby Ewing became embroiled in an argument with his father, Jock over the operation of Ewing Oil and the transfer of a large sum of money. Bobby fires a line at Jock "You gave me the power to run Ewing Oil". Jock replies with an unforgettable line, delivered as only the late Jim Davis could deliver it: "So... I gave you power... well if I did give you power then I gave you nothing. Real power isn't something you're given, it's something you TAKE!". That last line is something that tyrants across history have known well. From the time of Atila the Hun, to the Roman Emporers to Nicolo Machavelli and into the modern age of Saddam Hussein, this is a well ingrained principle. The liberals of today know it too - all too well.
Moderates and many Republicans seem to think that appeasement - capitulating to Obama and the Democrats in the name of bipartisanship is the answer. Bipartisanship in this case means appeasement. There are moderate Republicans who fear being shunned by the White House or being ridiculed by the likes of the intellectually bankrupt Keith Olbermann, Jon Stewart, Rachel Maddow or Chris Matthews. Or, stupidly, they believe the left liberals really want to be their friends. The answer is to just "go along and not make waves" because that way they think they can share in the "success" of an agenda that is being sold to them as something other than what it really is. They prefer disgrace to danger, and to quote the speech -"Any nation that prefers disgrace to danger is ready for a master and deserves one".
Our time for choosing is now. Do we join our well meaning moderate friends, keep our mouths shut and go along with this policy of appeasement or do we lay down the law to Barack Obama and tell him, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid - "NO". This administration is a disgrace from top to bottom. We have a President who doesn't have the first clue as to what being a President is about, who spits on the dignity and decorum of the office and who has repeatedly shown disgraceful behavior from the humiliating gift of an iPod pre-loaded with his speeches to the Queen of England to the "Shout Out" to Joe Crow the Medicine Man in the wake of a terrorist attack within the walls of one of our military bases. Is THIS what we appease and go along with in the name of "bipartisanship"?
The entire liberal establishment is hell-bent on committing generational theft - that is stealing the wealth that belongs to generations of Americans not yet born to give it to "poor people". They are bent on creating a nanny state that itself is supported by a bunch of underachievers with an entitlement mentality. We already have too many of those in the form of lifelong welfare recipients. And where does the entitlement mentality come from? Right from the heart of the Democrat Party.
The Democrats feel that they are entitled to take the money earned by honest, productive, hardworking people and spend it on social programs for the poor - most of whom are poor either because they are too damned lazy to work or because they've made repeatedly stupid choices in their life. Why should we for a minute subsidize lazy or stupid? The free enterprise system and small businesses have done more for the people of this country than all of the government programs combined. Equal opportunities exist for every man, woman and child in this country right now. Equal outcomes are not guaranteed. If Barack Obama has his way, the outcomes will be equal - equally rotten for everyone. The liberal way of thinking is that we all should suffer so that we can feel better about the plight of the poor and thereby end our feelings of guilt. The problem is, I have no guilt over what I have achieved and earned in my life. I dare to live my life as a statement and not an apology. That's a choice.
We as a Nation are at a rendezvous with destiny and are at a time for choosing. I believe that the tide has turned and the choice has been made. We as conservatives have been awakend from a near 20 year slumber by the wake up call that is this extreme leftist agenda. Much to the dismay of the liberals, the Reagan Revolution is very much alive and well and our troops outnumber them by more than 2-1. We don't need charismatic leaders, speaking in platitudes with throngs of school children singing songs about him to advance our beliefs and stop the liberal nonsense dead in it's tracks. We made our choice - we are Conservatives.
We choose to support the vision of the Founding Fathers, the framers of the Constitution.
We choose to hold true to the vision of Freedom and in so doing to ensure that our honored dead soldiers did not die in vain.
We choose to respect and revere the Constitution of the United States of America and we respect this as law, not a living document that is subject to change with the political climate.
We choose to bind the Federal Government and restrict it from ever encroaching on the lives of the American People.
We choose to support that the People have authority and dominion over the Government, not the other way around.
We choose to reject any notion of Socialism, including socialized medicine as acceptable on our soil.
We choose to believe and uphold "Liberty and Justice for ALL" not subjugation, entitlement and a "nanny state".
We choose to recognize State's Rights over any right that the Federal Government may have, except in matters provided for by the constitution.
We choose smaller government, less giveaways, secure borders, that people should keep the money they EARN and we believe in shooting the bad guys.
We choose the Shining City on the Hill as opposed to the lifeless gray Socialist Utopia that liberals believe is a better place for all.
2010 will be a time for choosing for America. I believe even now that the bell has tolled for Obama and his radical leftist agenda. A swing of more than 25 percentage points against him occurred this week in Virginia and New Jersey. This fight is not over though. We as conservatives must not stop until the day we drive Barack Obama from the Oval Office and onto the Unemployment Line - a place a lot of Americans have ended up due to his fiscal policies. First 2010 and then 2012.
Our choice as a Nation is either up and away from this radical leftist agenda or down to the ash-heap of history where all Socialists end up. Conservatism is rising and it is on the march. We must now join this battle and ensure Freedom's future. It is our responsibility to do so. We can drive the Socialism embraced by Barack Obama and his allies to the same dustbin that the former Soviet Union ended up in, to the junkyard of bad ideas and failed leadership. The time is now. This is a rendesvous with destiny.
